TURKS AND CAICOS TOURIST BOARD
ANNOUCE DATES FOR TOURISM AWARENESS WEEK
PROVIDENCIALES, TURKS AND CAICOS—(September 5, 2007)—The Turks and Caicos will celebrate its vibrant and burgeoning tourism industry, during Tourism Awareness Week, which takes place, October 7th to 13th under the theme, “Achieving Service Excellence Through Industry Training”
“Tourism is by far our leading industry and through Tourism Awareness Week, we hope to enhance citizen’s knowledge of tourism and create a sense of pride and ownership within the tourism trade.” said Ralph Higgs, Director of Tourism Marketing.
Tourism Awareness week was first observed in 1989, as a means to promote the culture of the islands, raise awareness about the importance of tourism, and encourage appreciation of the people and communities that drive the industry.
This year, the Tourist Board will build on these goals, as plans are being made to host a number of activities throughout the islands, including Church Services at surrounding Methodist churches Sunday October 7th, Opening Ceremony and Motorcade in Providenciales Monday October 8, High School Speech Competition in Grand Turk Tuesday October 9th, School visits Wednesday October 10th, Tourism Awareness Conference Thursday October 11, Career Day and Quiz Competition Friday October 12th and culminates with a Cultural Day in Grand Turk Saturday October 13th.
