MUSEUM AND CHILDREN PRESS RELEASE - NOVEMBER 7TH, 2006
Children and the Turks and Caicos National Museum
GRAND TURK, TURKS & CAICOS ISLANDS, BWI – NOVEMBER 7, 2006
The Turks and Caicos National Museum recently held it's 7th annual Museum Day, commemorating the 15th anniversary of the opening of the Museum on Grand Turk. Luckily the rain held off and those attending the day were entertained by performances from Ona Glinton School , the Children’s Club and Bryan Manco from the National Trust with snakes from the Caicos Islands . There was also face-painting and a quiz with a very unusual prize which will be announced later.
On the same evening of the Museum Day Amanda Tauwhare opened the doors of the Governor’s Residence at Waterloo and over 50 people attended a movie night organised by Rebecca Cain to raise funds for the Museum’s Children’s Club. The evening opened with the Museum director showing a silent film of life in the Turks and Caicos Islands in the early 1960s and Mr Sadler explained that he hoped that oral history could be collected to provide a soundtrack to this film, as well as others held by the museum. Later in the week Amanda Tauwhare visited the museum to hand over the money raised, nearly $400, to Museum Director and Museum Assistants Aliatte Michel and Jernica Williams.
